About the Department
The journey of the Mathematics Department began with the college's founding in 1964. Under the inaugural leadership of Shri T. Totadri Iyengar, who served as Principal, the institution initially laid its academic foundation by offering an Undergraduate course in Mathematics alongside essential Pre-University courses. This marked the department's humble but significant beginnings, establishing its core offering from day one.
The department's commitment to higher education was recognized when the University of Madras elevated it to Postgraduate status in 1980. Further demonstrating its progression and dedication to scholarly pursuits, the University of Madras upgraded the department to a research department with an M.Phil course in 2001. The department's evolution culminated in 2022 when it received Ph.D. affiliation The department is distinguished by its energetic, dedicated, and research-oriented faculty, whose expertise spans, Number Theory, Complex Analysis , Mathematical Analysis, Fuzzy Sets, Fuzzy Optimization, Petri Nets, Information Security, Differential Equations, Wavelets, and Numerical Methods.
Objective
To provide graduate students an opportunity to develop a deep understanding and enjoyment of mathematics, to carry out original research, to become effective teachers and communicators, and to prepare themselves for their future careers.
